CULLMAN, Ala. – On April 27 and 28, Saint Bernard Prep’s Drama Department put on “Wonderland!,” an adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” Despite the necessity of last-minute changes and the challenges of a small cast doubling as backstage crew, the team led the audience on a fun adventure through the looking glass. English teacher Kirsten Dickerson directed, and John Caples oversaw the technical side of the production.

“The spring musical ‘Wonderland!’ was a great success this year,” said Dickerson. “The cast worked tirelessly to ensure the audience had a great time. Emilie Gutowski played Alice, and this was her largest role at SBP. Her energy provided the perfect catalyst as she ventured through Wonderland. Sarah Cumbie and Anna Catherine Douglas played the White and Red Queens, respectively, and portrayed a vibrant balance of sassy and sweet. Kieran Gargan played the White King and Tweedle Dum, and Johnathan McBride played the Red King and Tweedle Dee.

“Kieran and Johnathan had two scenes together that involved some play sword fighting and silly dancing, both of which were hilariously executed. Joy Lamote was the White Rabbit and impressed us with her improvisational skills. Caroline Sidley and Yulissa Wang were new to theater, yet performed with ease and as if they had been a part of other productions. This cast worked hard, and that hard work paid off. To say that I am proud of them is an understatement, and I believe they are the leaders and future of SBP’s performing arts.”
