CULLMAN, Ala. – Smith Lake Park hosted its annual 4th of July Fireworks Festival Saturday, following a week of stifling temperatures and heat warnings that persisted throughout the majority of the day. That didn’t stop the festivities.

Several first responders were stationed at numerous areas around the park as the crowd grew to ensure the public remained safe. Cooling tents were also set up for the public to stop and take breaks throughout their visit.

The event featured live music, a multitude of vendors, golf cart parades, a balloon toss and even rides on a Huey helicopter.

The 3Sixty Jeep Club is an organization that aims to bring communities together and provide for the less fortunate. Members on-site told The Tribune that, to them, America as a whole and the Fourth of July are a celebration of the ultimate sacrifice.

Vendor Wade Miller said, “It’s that one day a year where we get to stop fighting with each other and be Americans.”

All agreed that the holiday went beyond fireworks and cooking on the grill. This year was even more special, as it marked the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The celebration was capped off by a fireworks show over the water, a favorite annual tradition.
