Obituary: Gary Chandler

Gary Chandler, age 84, of Vinemont, Alabama, passed away Friday, August 28, 2026, at his home.

Gary was born January 15, 1942, to Floyd and Lillie Gertrude (Hancock) Chandler of Cullman. He attended the Cullman school system from grade school through Cullman High School. Gary entered the United States Marine Corps in 1961. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1965, he enrolled at Wallace State Community College, where he received an Associate of Arts Degree in Mechanical Drafting. He was employed as a designer at Lanson Industries for several years and later worked at Amtec Corporation in Huntsville, Alabama, until his retirement in 2005.

Gary was a dedicated Christian who always stood firm in his beliefs and values. As a member of Friendship Baptist Church, he faithfully served as a deacon, worked with the Children’s Ministry, and taught an adult Sunday School Class for several years. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid Alabama fan. One of his greatest joys in life was being with his three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois Carolyn (Hutson) Chandler; an infant daughter, Tammy Renae Chandler; three brothers, Jimmy Ray Chandler, Billy Gene Chandler, and Darrel Wayne Chandler; and a sister, Carolyn Francis Carden.

Mr. Chandler is survived by his wife of fifty years, Marie (Bynum) Chandler; a daughter, Laura Marie (Chandler) Burgess; son-in-law Keadrick Burgess; three grandsons, Kaden Allen Burgess, Noah Ray Burgess, and Rivers Grayson Burgess; and a sister, Hilda Thompson.

The visitation for Mr. Chandler will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of Gary’s life. A Military Graveside Service will follow at Flint Creek Cemetery, 3048 Co Rd 1354, Vinemont, AL 35179, US, on September 1, 2026.
