LOCAL VOLLEYBALL: Holly Pond, Cold Springs seventh-graders, Fairview JV win tournament titles

HOLLY POND, Ala. — Local volleyball teams collected three tournament championships and several strong finishes Saturday, with Holly Pond winning the second annual Monica Ayers Invitational Tournament, Cold Springs’ seventh-grade team claiming the Hanceville Middle School Invitational title and Fairview’s junior varsity winning the Vinemont JV Tournament.

Holly Pond wins Monica Ayers Invitational

Holly Pond completed an unbeaten run through its home tournament at Felton Easterwood Gymnasium, defeating Geraldine 2-0 in the championship match.

The Lady Broncos earned the top seed from Pool A after sweeping Falkville and Brindlee Mountain. Holly Pond continued its run through the Gold Bracket with straight-set victories over Southeastern and Cullman Christian before sweeping Geraldine for the tournament title.

Cullman Christian reached the Gold Bracket semifinals before falling to Holly Pond.

Cold Springs places third

Cold Springs opened the Monica Ayers Invitational with a three-set loss to Southeastern but responded by defeating J.B. Pennington 2-0 to earn the top seed from its pool.

The Lady Eagles advanced through the Gold Bracket with a 2-0 victory over Falkville, setting up a semifinal match against Geraldine.

Cold Springs fell behind 17-10 in the opening set and 17-12 in the second before narrowing both margins. Geraldine held off the Lady Eagles to win 25-21, 25-22, leaving Cold Springs with a third-place tournament finish.

Cold Springs seventh grade wins Hanceville tournament

Cold Springs’ seventh-grade team went undefeated at the Hanceville Middle School Invitational, winning five matches on its way to the championship.

The Lady Eagles swept Hayden, Corner and Hanceville during pool play to secure the top seed. Cold Springs defeated Hanceville again in two sets during bracket play before meeting Boaz in the championship match.

Cold Springs defeated Boaz in three sets to capture the tournament title.

Fairview JV wins at Vinemont

Fairview’s junior varsity team finished Saturday atop the field at the Vinemont JV Tournament.

The Fairview volleyball program confirmed the Lady Aggies’ championship following the tournament. Complete match scores and set totals were not released.

Cold Springs’ JV team also competed at Vinemont. The Lady Eagles pushed Westminster School at Oak Mountain to three sets before falling and completed pool play against Fairview and Vinemont. Cold Springs’ official recap did not specify the outcomes of its matches against Fairview and Vinemont.

Addison finishes 3-1 at West Morgan

Addison won three of four matches during Saturday’s West Morgan Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Muscle Shoals 2-1, Covenant Christian 2-0 and Colbert Heights 2-0. Addison won its pool before falling to West Point 2-0 in tournament play.
