Rudene decided that we were getting too old to stay on our little farm. We had goats and small donkeys to tend to and a pasture to keep up. We also had a big yard to keep mowed. So we moved into town and now live on a nice peaceful little street. Our street is about a mile long.

Zach Lee, a good neighbor, lives on our street. He has a lovely daughter whose birthday is on the first of November. She liked Halloween celebrations, and when she was about 6 years old they started celebrating her birthday on Halloween. He thought about decorating his yard for Halloween and giving goodies to all the children that came by. I think he started by putting his idea on Facebook 10 years ago. There were about 30 children that came the first year. He would fix a little bag full of goodies to give each one.

This is the first year Rudene and I were home on Halloween night. We were surprised at the traffic and people, mostly children scattered up and down the street. There was more traffic on this little street than I have ever seen at an Auburn football game. Our daughter, granddaughter and little twin great-grandsons had come by for a visit. After our daughter got home, she called us and said that it took her 30 minutes to get off of our street.

We gave candy out the front door for two hours or more. We finally turned the front lights out and went to our little den on the back side of the house. We left some lights on the back of the house because we were expecting our granddaughter-in-law and two little great-granddaughters to come by.

I heard someone talking and went to the back door. I looked out and there were about 25 men, women and children standing there. I was down to a very small amount of candy, so I just gave out one piece to each as long as it lasted. When I ran out of candy, one man looked at me like I was being stingy. So I turned my box upside down to show him it was empty. I was surprised that people would come to the back door if the front lights were out.

I talked to Zach and asked him how he kept up with how many children had come by. He said that he made 2,000 little bags this year and he had 200 left. So he gave out 1,800 little bags.

Next year I may dress in a Halloween outfit and tell everybody that I am 8 years old and am just big for my age. That way I will enjoy Halloween much more.
