CULLMAN, Ala. – Local seniors got the chance to walk the red carpet and dress as their favorite Hollywood stars at this year’s annual Senior Health Fair. The event took place Sept. 4, at the Donald E. Green Active Adult Center, drawing a crowd of 100-150 people from senior centers across Cullman County.

The Senior Health Fair has been going strong since it made its comeback in 2021 after the pandemic.

This year’s theme, “Lights, Camera, Healthy Action,” encouraged physical activity and socialization and connected seniors with local resources. There were 25 or more different vendors, including home health agencies, financial groups and pharmacies.

“The goal is for them to see what resources are available to them,” said Cullman County Commission on Aging Director Stephanie Lawson.

The festive events was packed with movie trivia, charades and a photo booth. Seniors got to test their moves with line dancing and free dancing, grooving to famous movie music like “Ghostbusters,” “Uptown Girl” and “Sweet Caroline,” with everyone chiming in to sing the famous lyrics sung by Neil Diamond. There were also door prizes to take home and free lunch provided.

Attendees were also reminded about the upcoming Medicare enrollment period, Oct. 15-Dec. 7. During this time, seniors can make changes to Medicare coverage including enrolling, switching plans, adding or dropping drug coverage or changing from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan. Seniors can call 256-734-1241 to set up an appointment at the Commission on Aging to enroll.

Upcoming Cullman County Commission on Aging events include:

  • Senior Day at Oktoberfest, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. at Depot Park
