Obituary: Peggy Ann Daniels Day

Peggy Ann Daniels Day, 77, was born October 19, 1943, and died August 7, 2021 of  a malignant brain tumor.   She is survived by her son: John Lee Day; brother: Charles Edward  Daniels, Jr. and wife Janet Daniels.  Peggy was predeceased by her father: Charles Edward  Daniels; mother: Thelma Christine Daniels and brother: Bobby Leon Daniels.  Moss Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Visitation will be Thursday, August 12, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and service on Friday, August 13, 10:00 a.m. in Moss Chapel. Graveside service will be Saturday, August 14 at 12:00 p.m. at City Cemetery (Pine Hill AL, Wilcox County).   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Project Lifesaver Program, P O Box 1439,  Cullman, AL  35056.  Peggy grew up in Pine Hill, Alabama, the youngest of the three siblings, raised by a widowed  mother from the age of 4.  Upon graduating from high school, Peggy attended for two years at  Livingston College, then transferred and graduated from the University of Alabama.  She later  earned her master’s degree.  Peggy moved to Cullman in 1966 and began work with the  Department of Pensions and Security, later named Department of Human Resources.  She  originally lived in a boarding house, then later moved into one of the rare apartments in  Cullman.  She courted and married Lee Day and they had a son named John.  Following the  divorce and then death of Lee, Peggy bought a home for her and John.  Peggy was employed by the Department of Human Resources from 1965 until her retirement in 2009.  During her time with DHR, Peggy served as a worker in Adult Protective Services,  supervisor, program supervisor and county director.  During her tenure as director, Peggy was  instrumental in ensuring the department’s new and current building was built and dedicated  prior to her retirement.  Peggy dedicated her life to the service of others and helping those in  need and always did so with a smile.  She will be greatly missed.  Peggy was very active in many community organizations and enjoy being involved.  As a very active Pilot Club member, Peggy served on the Board of Directors and two terms as  president.  As a club leader, she attended many Alabama District and Pilot International  Leadership Conferences/Conventions. She served as secretary of the Alabama District  Administrative Council.   Peggy was a member of the Pilot Light Inc. Board of Directors 25  years representing DHR and Pilot Club, and serving as secretary many of those years.  She was  chairman and secretary of the Board of Directors for the Project Lifesaver Program 18 plus  years. Everyone that work alongside Peggy is greatly saddened by the loss of this dear friend.   It has been an honor to have served with her for 25 years.  Peggy was a kind and loving person,  always soft spoken and serving others with a servant’s heart.  As a member of Dripping Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for nine  years, Peggy served as recording secretary, vice regent and was currently serving as regent.    She chaired many chapter committees and attended many State Conferences and National  Continental Congresses.  Peggy was a dedicated member of DAR, always looking for ways to  further the purposes of God, home and country.  As a retired county employee, Peggy was also an active member of Alabama Retired State  Employees Association.  She enjoyed brunch meetings with the Coterie Women’s Club.  Peggy was an AVID supporter of the University of Alabama, never missing a televised game.  She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, soap operas, rescuing and adopting homeless cats and  Swamp John’s Meals.    Above all else, Peggy was a loving and devoted mother to John.  Moss Service Funeral Home directing.
