CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County residents are being asked to share their concerns about roadway safety as the county develops a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan.

Cullman County Economic Development announced the county is working on the plan through the federally funded SS4A grant program. Public input is an important part of the process, and residents are encouraged to complete an online roadway safety survey focused on county-maintained roads.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the SS4A program was established through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and provides funding for local, regional and Tribal initiatives aimed at preventing roadway fatalities and serious injuries.

Cullman County received an SS4A grant to conduct a data-driven, comprehensive study focused on improving roadway safety. The study will look at safer roads, safer people, safer vehicles, appropriate vehicle speeds and improved post-crash care.

County officials said the survey gives residents an opportunity to identify concerns, share feedback and help guide the county’s safety planning process.

“Cullman County is developing a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan, and public input is an important part of the process,” the announcement said. “Please take a few minutes to complete the roadway safety survey and share your concerns about county-maintained roads.”

The county is asking residents to add their voices to the study by completing the online survey. Once the survey page opens, users should scroll down to the Introduction section and look for the area marked “survey here” to begin.

The county said the goal of the SS4A planning process is to gather information that can be used to develop strategies for safer roads and improved transportation safety across Cullman County.

Residents with concerns about roadway safety, dangerous areas, problem locations or other issues involving county-maintained roads are encouraged to participate.
