VINEMONT, Ala. – Vinemont welcomed in the East Lawrence Eagles in a Thursday night jamboree, which kicked off with the Middle School teams getting two possessions a piece.
Vinemont got the ball first, and quickly jumped ahead 8-0 when Grayson Robinson raced 47 yards on fourth down. Vinemont’s offense quickly got the ball back after East Lawrence turned the ball over on downs, but this time, Vinemont was unable to convert on fourth. After East Lawrence managed to move the chains a couple of times Vinemont’s defense stepped up to force three straight negative plays ending the Middle School portion of the jamboree.
Next, it was junior varsity’s turn, and the same as the Middle School, they would only play two possessions. A fumble on Vinemonts second play set up East Lawrence on first and goal. Vinemont came up big, as they forced three negative plays and then an incomplete pass on fourth and goal. On the first play from scrimmage Karson Arbet outran the defense for an 88 yard touchdown to put Vinemont up 8-0. Then, East Lawrence was forced to punt after a holding penalty put them behind the chains.
Finally it was the Varsity’s turn, and after an interception on their first possession Vinemont’s defense stepped up to force a three-and-out. Another interception gave the ball back to East Lawrence, but two plays later the clock ran out in the first half.Â
East Lawrence took 6-0 led midway through the third quarter on a long touchdown pass. Vinemonts offense seemed to have found their groove until East Lawrence took a fumble back for a touchdown to push the led to 12-0 late in the third quarter. Early in the fourth quarter Vinemont cut into the deficit when Josh Rhodes found the endzone from three yards out to make the score 12-8. On the ensuing possession a costly penalty on fourth down gave East Lawrence a first down and they quickly took advantage, scoring a touchdown to put the led at 18-8 midway through the fourth quarter. Down two scores the clock became an issue for Vinemont, and after a three-and-out, Vinemont got another shot after recovering a fumble, but the clock would run out on the home team as they were unable to overcome three turnovers, one of which directly resulted in a touchdown.
