CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman High School has a new athletic trainer for the 2026-2027 school year, who will be working across all sports this fall, winter and spring.
Patrick Johnson, from Madison, Al., has joined CHS athletics as the school’s new athletic trainer. Johnson is a graduate of St. John Paul II Catholic High School, and attended Auburn University at Montgomery and Bridgewater College in Virginia. He holds a master’s degree in athletic training, and is employed as an Athletic Trainer with Baptist Health. CHS has partnered with Baptist Health to provide athletic training outreach this season.
“I am ecstatic about having the opportunity to be a part of the CHS sports
program,” Johnson said. “I look forward to bringing my experiences and knowledge to help provide amazing care for our CHS student athletes.”
Johnson brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked sports at the collegiate level at the University of Tennessee football program, and previously spent six years working as an athletic trainer in Blount County. He has previously worked with JB Pennington High School, Susan Moore High School and Hayden High School.
“As the school athletic trainer, I am a state-licensed healthcare professional dedicated to ensuring the health, safety, and performance of our student-athletes. My role encompasses injury prevention, immediate on-field care, clinical assessment, and comprehensive rehabilitation for sports-related injuries and illnesses,” Johnson said. “Beyond providing coverage for practices, games, and tournaments year-round, I work closely with physicians, physical therapists, coaches and parents to ensure a seamless recovery and safely get our athletes back in the game. While no single trainer can be at every event, I am always available to coordinate the care of all Bearcats!”
Johnson is married to his wife, Jessica, and the two have a 2-year-old daughter, Melodie.
