CULLMAN, Ala. – A Blount County man has been charged with four counts of aggravated cruelty to animals in Cullman County. Travis Wade Black, 62, allegedly poisoned four cats.

Cullman County Animal Control Director Rodney Banister said Black poisoned four cats while he was on the property near Hanceville where the cats lived.

Aggravated cruelty to animals is a Class C felony.

Banister said a special thanks is owed to Officer Cooper Harris for his work in the case and Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker and the Cullman County District Attorney’s office for their cooperation and effort.

“I appreciate the dedication of our animal control officers,” Crocker said. “The Cullman County Commission did the community a great service by investing in their training, enabling the officers to make these type of cases for prosecution.”

Black is being held on a property bond at the Cullman County Detention Center.
