HOLLY POND, Ala. – The National Weather Service Huntsville confirmed a EF-1 tornado impacted the Holly Pond and Baileyton area on Friday, May 22, 2026.
The storms were expected to bring a low risk of strong to severe weather, though several damage reports from residents in the area proved otherwise.
A video from Hannah Chambers, of the Holly Pond area, began to make traction online. (www.facebook.com/share/v/14YPWf47Y9G/)
The video shows a heavy downpour, which is not uncommon in Alabama in the summer months. As the video shifts to the left a funnel is seen rotating beyond nearby trees.
The Chambers family was unaffected, though some Holly Pond residents faced major damage.
NWS Huntsville reported the tornado reached wind speeds up to 107 miles per hour between 12:57-1:14 p.m. It initially formed in Holly Pond and traveled 8.7 miles northeast, making a short turn northwest at the intersection Alabama Highways 69 and 67 before coming to an end just before entering Joppa.
There have been no reports of injuries, but several residents are facing structural damages and more.
We will update the public on any clean-up efforts and means to help local families.
