KATHLEEN MALLORY CIRCLE

The Kathleen Mallory Circle met in the home of Mrs. J. J. Dunlap on Monday, April 22. Mrs. Lora Perry, the chairman, was in charge of the meeting. Mrs. Bernice Hines led the opening prayer and gave the devotion in connection with the program on “Enlistment of Missions.” A very interesting program was given in a panel discussion. Those taking part were Mrs. Beulah Linton, Mrs. Winnie Duren, Mrs. Ruby Bland and Mrs. Clare Barnett. The meeting was closed with prayer. Refreshments were served to Mesdames Bernice Hines, A. P. Warren, Lora Perry, W. A. Butler, Lossie Bland, James Chappell, Beulah Linton and the hostess, Mrs. J. J. Dunlap.

CULTURE CLUB

Mrs. R. J. Rice was hostess to the Culture Club this week when it met at her home. Mrs. David B. Lamont gave the devotional. The program was presented by Mrs. Wallace Green on Alabama State Parks. Delicious refreshments were served to Mesdames A. Burkart, J. D. Plunkett, David B. Lamont, L. B. Cagle, Barry Anderson, G. H. Wiggins and Wallace Green; also visitors Mrs. Cleve Hovington and Mrs. Bullard.

St. Paul’s School To Present Operetta

Pupils of St. Paul’s Lutheran School will present an operetta, “Cabbage-Patch Magic,” on Friday evening, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Paul’s auditorium. Charles Bruner is directing the performance, and Mrs. Wm. Arnold will serve as accompanist.

Main characters in the operetta are: Scarecrow, Charles Buettner; Fairy Queen, Susie Below; North Wind, Dexter Leigeber; Naughty Gnome King, Eddie Burkart.

Other characters include:

Icebergs: Nancy Graham, Barbara Nuss, Cathy Apel, Mary Blankenship, Mary MacAnnally.

Fairies: Debbie Corgill, Luanne Graf, Kathy Rich, Shawn Freeman, Dianne Corgill, Lisa Goings, Elizabeth Eddleman.

Fireflies: Lynne Lovelady, Lydia Lovelady, Debbie Glascock, Susan Oliver, Claire Mitchell, Melba Jean Sherrill, Larry Harris, Fred Frank, Jimmy Cornett.

Sunset Sisters: Lisa Owens, Glenda Hammer, Ruth Leigeber, Linda Hammer, Virginia Messersmith, Debbie Gorff, Dianne Bowling, Lucy Underwood, Brenda Bonds, Kathy Buettner.

Naughty Gnomes: Terry Denson, Randy Welch, Al Peinhardt, Richard York, John Smith, John Phillips, Mark Lovelady, Tut Underwood, John Isom, Mike Clem, John McMeans, Ricky Anderson.

The following members of the faculty are assisting with production: Miss Jane Unverzadt and Mrs. Esther Kidd, costumes; Miss Tracy Meyer, scenery; Miss Judy Schwerman, music; Miss Marcy Riemer, properties; Miss Freda Fox, publicity.

“Art In The Park” Scheduled For Cullman On May 25th

On Saturday, May 25, the people of Cullman County, as well as the people throughout the state, are invited to enjoy the third annual “Art in the Park.” This art show, sponsored by the members of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, will be held in the park one block north of Home Economy Market if the weather permits. In case of rain, the exhibits will be displayed in the St. John’s Church Educational Building, 508 Second Avenue East.

Artists from all over the state are invited to participate in the show. Anyone who paints or creates hand work of any type should contact Mrs. Austin Dean, 406 Fifth Avenue East, H.S.A., Cullman, telephone 734-5821, if he wishes to enter an exhibit. There will be a $3 entrance fee for all who wish to enter their work, and a 10% collection will be made on anything sold, sketched, or painted at the show.

Judges will award three prizes for the best works on display. The first prize will be $10, the second prize $5, and the third prize $3. Admission to the show is free for everyone attending, and there will be a booth where hot dogs, cold drinks, and popsicles may be purchased.

Mariglen Prickett is general chairman for the show, and Marlene Dean is co-chairman.

Opal Couch attended the funeral of her brother, E. O. Ragland, Saturday.
