CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Police Department, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and Cullman Fire Rescue shared final incident and medical numbers from Rock the South, which took place June 19-21.

Police Chief Joey Duncan said over all three days, 29 arrests were made and 62 people were ejected from the property.

“The Cullman Police Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, Region 6 Law Enforcement agencies, Cullman Fire Rescue and all other first responders who provided invaluable support during the Rock The South event,” Duncan said. “Their professionalism, coordination and dedication were instrumental in ensuring the safety and success of this large scale event. We are proud to stand alongside such committed partners in public service.”

Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry said he wanted to share a huge thank you to everyone who came out and made Rock the South a success this year.

“We also want to recognize the tireless efforts of all the law enforcement and first responders who worked around the clock to ensure the safety of all attendees,” Gentry said. “I am proud of all the hard work and long hours our deputies at the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office put in this weekend. Regardless of the challenges that events like this present, the citizens of Cullman County will always be our number one priority. I know their dedication does not go unnoticed — I ask that you join me and say thank you for keeping our community safe.”

Cullman Fire Rescue Chief Darren Peeples shared the following medical incident totals:

  • Day 1: 90 assisted; six sent to hospital
  • Day 2: 175 heat-related cases;  51 treated; one sent to the hospital
  • Day 3: 70 medical treatments; 74-heat related cases; four transports to the hospital

The CPD was also able to use its helicopter for aerial surveillance to monitor crowd movement and quickly identify potential issues, allowing for swift coordination of ground responses.

“Given the heavy traffic associated with Rock the South, the helicopter also plays a critical role in monitoring traffic flow and assisting with parking and ingress/egress management in collaboration with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office,” Duncan said. “A strong law enforcement presence at Rock the South is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees, staff and performers. With thousands of people gathered in one place, having a visible and coordinated police presence allows for effective crowd control, quick response to emergencies, traffic management and the prevention of criminal activity. The Cullman Police Department, in partnership with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies, works diligently to maintain a secure environment so that everyone can enjoy the event safely.”
