CULLMAN, Ala. – Severe storms impacted Cullman County on Saturday, June 7, leaving significant damage and widespread power outages. High winds brought down trees across the area, many of which damaged homes, buildings and utility infrastructure.
According to Cullman County EMA officials, the storm destroyed shingles and sections from several roofs. Emergency management crews are assessing damage and working with the Red Cross to assist residents affected by the storms. Officials confirmed there have been no reports of injuries related to the storms. The EMA warned the community to remain cautious, as some downed power lines and utility cables may stay active and can cause severe injury. Community members are advised not to approach or attempt to move them.
Said Cullman County EMA’s Brent McDonald, “We’ve had a lot of trees come down across Cullman County, and unfortunately, many of them caused severe damage to homes, buildings and utility lines. That has led to widespread power outages in many areas. The high winds also tore up several roofs.
Since the storm hit, we’ve been out assessing the damage and working alongside the Red Cross to make sure that if anyone needs help, they’re able to get it. We’re incredibly thankful that there have been no reports of injuries from the storm. We want to remind everyone to stay cautious — there are still some downed power lines and utility cables out there. Please don’t go near them or try to move them. They can be extremely dangerous and could cause serious injury or even be fatal.”
As of press time Monday, June 9, at 6 p.m., there were four power outages reported by the Cullman Power Board, and the Cullman Electric Cooperative reported: “There are a remaining 24 outages affecting 119 members. Every remaining outage has been assigned a crew, and they will be working through the night until each outage is restored.”
