Good Hope Council approves contract for city engineer

GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope City Council held its first June meeting at Good Hope City Hall Monday night and approved a new resolution to appoint a City Engineer. Resolution No: 014-2025 authorized the council to enter into a contract with James Chitwood of Canyon Engineering to be appointed as the City Engineer through Oct. 31. Following the upcoming municipal election, the newly elected council will review terms of the contract at its organizational meeting on Nov. 2.

In addition to approving the new Resolution, the council also voted to rescind its motion to award the bid for the City’s multi-use community center project. The bid was originally awarded to United Contracting and Design, LLC but bidding on the project will now be reopened at a later date.

Resolution No: 014-2025 – Contract for City Engineer

“WHEREAS, the City of Good Hope intends to comply with the all federal, state and local laws; and WHEREAS, the City of Good Hope is in need of expanding services to the citizens of the City of Good Hope; and THEREFORE, in accordance with professional service guidelines the City of Good Hope would like to go into contract with James G (Chuck) Chitwood of Canyon Engineering to be appointed as City Engineer to assist in ; and NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the city council of the City of Good Hope states that Jerry Bartlett, Mayor, is hereby authorized to execute contract documents with Canyon Engineering, to provide professional engineering, consultation for assistance and review planned developments, subdivision, commercial and industrial development and more as stated in attached contract; after execution said contract will become a part of this resolution.

WHEREAS, the City desires to retain the services of a qualified engineering firm to be appointed as the City Engineer; and WHEREAS, Canyon Engineering represents that it possesses the necessary qualifications, experience, and resources to perform such services for the City; NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual covenants and promises contained herein, the City and the Engineer agree as follows:

ARTICLE 1: APPOINTMENT AND SCOPE OF SERVICES

  • 1.1 Appointment as City Engineer: The City hereby appoints Canyon Engineering as its City Engineer. This appointment shall remain in effect for the term of this Agreement, subject to the terms and conditions herein.
  • 1.2 General Scope of Services: As City Engineer, Canyon Engineering shall provide professional engineering services to the City, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Reviewing all planned developments, subdivisions, commercial and industrial developments, city buildings, etc. to ensure the design meets the requirements of the City of Good Hope’s regulations and ordinances.
  • Coordination of all city projects performed by city employees to size drainage culvert pipes and ditches, paving projects, recreational projects, etc., with the Good Hope Public Works Department.
  • Provide guidance and engineering-related opinions as needed by the City Manager, Mayor, and/or Council.


ARTICLE 2: TERM AND TERMINATION

  • 2.1 Term: This Agreement shall commence on the Effective Date and shall continue through Oct. 31. This Agreement may be renewed for automatic unless cancelled by either party at any time.
  • 3.1 Retainer: For City Engineer shall be a monthly retainer of $1,000.00. Additional services beyond those listed above can be offered for an hourly rate of $125.00 or for a negotiated fee.”
