CULLMAN, Ala. – Fungi enthusiasts and amateur mycology mavens alike can join in the hunt for mushrooms at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, at Sportsman Lake Park. The monthly foray is hosted by Alabama Mushroom Society (AMS).
Attendees will need to bring weather-appropriate clothing, trail-ready shoes, plenty of water and tick repellant.
“It’s very laid back and casual, and open to everyone!” said AMS President Alisha Millican, explaining that the foray is open to all education, age and interest levels. “You don’t have to know anything about mushrooms, just have an interest and a desire to learn. It’s also family friendly. I love answering kids’ questions about mushrooms and nurturing in them a love for nature!”
The monthly foray is free for registered AMS members. For non-members, there is a $5 admission fee, so plan to pay with exact change, in cash, at the time of the event. Register at www.alabamamushroomsociety.org/events.
