HANCEVILLE, Ala. – At the Hanceville City Council meeting Thursday night, council members approved the closing of Bull Dog Lane for the duration of the time it will take to finish construction on the Elementary School building.

Pam Reid and Cathi Bradford were both reappointed to the Hanceville Library Board for four-year terms.

A public hearing was set for March 10 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the rezoning of a property of over half an acre for real estate company One One Two Two. The company has met the approval of the planning commission.

The council surplused three vehicles, a 2020 Dodge 1500, a 2021 Dodge 2500 and a 2021 Chevy 1500, and approved the replacing of these vehicles and the purchase of another using the Surplus Property Fund.

Police Chief Bob Long reported 23 misdemeanors, 15 incidents, eight traffic accidents, 24 people arrested on warrants, 39 total arrests, 204 traffic citations, 42 non-traffic citations, 9 vehicles towed, 1023 cab calls for the month of January. Jim Sawyer asked how the total calls compared to last January. Bob stated, “A lot of times, we are right at 1900 to 2000; this was 1449, but I couldn’t say exactly how that would be January vs. January, but on an average month, we were a little bit lower than normal.”

Jimmie Nuss remarked about Lt. Kevin Pounder’s recent memorial service, saying, “I don’t know who arranged it. I’ve been to several. This was the best memorial service I think I’ve ever been to. I think the family, it can help them with some closure through the ordeal. Everybody that was involved in planning it and in the program, thank you.”
