HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Jamie Marsh has quite a list of accomplishments, including many that began right here in Cullman at Wallace State Community College. His short-term certificates include Basic Electronics, Intermediate, Electronics, Advanced Electronics, Basic Automation and Controls and Advanced Automation, Controls and Electronics-Mechatronics. Among these accomplishments was his graduation from the Fame program.

Marsh explained, “The FAME (North Central Alabama Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) program is a program that helps get you into the workforce, so you are held to a higher standard in FAME. In May of 2021, I graduated Wallace State with an Associates in Applied Science in Electronics Technology/ Mechatronics.

Jaime went on to share about his time achieving it all, “My experience at Wallace State was one of the best experiences of my life so far, the two years I was a student at Wallace went by super-fast. And you are surrounded by great leaders in the community that actually care about your future.”

He continued, “Jerry Murks and Dean Autry are the instructors of the Electronics Technology Department, and in my eyes, they are top notch when it comes to learning in the classroom, and helping you solve problems in the classroom, and at work. They are definitely well-qualified and do an outstanding job.”

President of Wallace State Community College Dr. Vicki Karolewics shared on Marsh’s successes, “Jamie is a remarkable young man, and the NCAL FAME program was a perfect pathway to his rewarding career. I have often said that community colleges are at a tipping point, and apprenticeships are the tip of the spear. Our FAME apprenticeship program is a perfect example of having partner employers invest in students while they are learning. It not only deepens the learning experience, but also develops company loyalty at an early age for student apprentices and charts and earlier course to lucrative employment.”

After earning his degree, completing over 2,000 hours of on-the-job training, gaining numerous industry credentials and mastering 70+ competencies related to the apprenticeship program, Jamie Marsh is now working at Sonoco in Hartselle, Alabama as a maintenance technician.

As a final word, Jaime shared, “I would also like to specially thank Christina Holmes for the work she does. She is always there to help and cares very much. She helped me get into the FAME program and without her help, I would not be where I am today.”
