HANCEVILLE, Ala. – At its meeting on Thursday, May 28, the Hanceville City Council approved park improvement funding and a liquor license for a local restaurant.
Parks
Councilman Robert Powell explained the proposal of combining the C.W. Day Park improvement project and park fencing project into one larger, three-phase project, with a budget of $525,000
“Kind of what it would do is, instead of focusing on just the fencing project and instead of just looking at the park improvement plan that we looked at, we would kind of combine both of them and turn it into a three-phase plan over the next three years,” he said.
Powell explained that $175,000 was budgeted, and over three years, $525,000 would cover the combined projects.
“Over the next three years, if we do about two fields a year and an improvement, over three years we can do the whole thing,” he said. “So that’s kind of what we’re looking at doing, and with this year, what we’re looking at doing is doing two fields and resurfacing the court and getting that back up. So that would be the first phase.”
The council approved the three-phase project.
The council also approved a budget amendment transferring $25,317 from the Veterans Park improvement fund to C.W. Day Park for the installation of a playground between ballfields three and four, along with an enclosure gate behind the playground.
Alcohol licensure
The council held a public hearing regarding an alcohol license for Azul Tequila Mexican Cantina. During the hearing, a resident recommended that the council review the legality of certain advertisements.
Mayor Nolan Bradford stated, “The actual ordinance says you can’t have the name of the brand of alcohol. This is part of the brand name, but it’s not the full brand name.” He added, “The whole ordinance needs going through, and we are going to do all that.”
Later in the meeting, the council approved the restaurant’s liquor license.
