CULLMAN, Ala. – Urban Cookhouse has opened its doors in Cullman and is quickly becoming a huge hit! Lisa Goodwin and Keith Goodwin co-own the building located at 914 2nd Ave NW where they previously had another business. They made the decision to sell and once they did, the business relocated, and they were once more left with the property. Their son Riley Stewart, owner of Urban Cookhouse, which currently has locations in Huntsville, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Montgomery, as well as in Tennessee and South Carolina, decided to set up shop in Cullman in the then empty building.

The Urban Cookhouse mission is to keep their food fresh, clean and as locally-sourced as possible. Here, they have partnered with Kress Farms in Fairview in sourcing all the produce for the restaurant in the future. One of the most popular locally-sourced creations is their strawberry lemonade, which they make in-house daily. They also clean all their produce in a large stainless-steel drum with a three-step process to ensure that all pesticides and chemicals are completely removed. Since opening, they have visited the Farmer’s Market to purchase ingredients such as corn and cucumbers. Soon, the Kress Family will have their family photo framed and hung in a front corner of the restaurant as their featured farm.

The employees of Urban Cookhouse put a great deal of thought into their food. Lisa Goodwin shared, “We just feel it’s a healthier, cleaner food because we buy as local as we can from the markets. All our dressings are made from scratch and gluten free. Also, the aioli sauce that is on our Urban Cowboy sandwich is made with chipotle peppers, sauteed onion, fire roasted tomatoes and an assortment of organic spices.”

Urban Cookhouse hours of operation are 10:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday- Monday, and 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sundays.
