Funny Things from Yesterday: Crosby visited us

Crosby, our oldest great-grandson, is 3-and-a-half years old, so he is still very young. It surprises me how much he knows. I’m sure that he learns a lot going to preschool. This is his second year.

You may remember that he was learning words that go with letters that the teacher calls out. Remember that I asked him what goes with the letter “C” and he said, “Me.” I teased him that “Me” started with a letter “M.”

He visited us last week and Rudene had bought some sidewalk chalk for him to write on our new cement walkway. He got a yellow piece of chalk and printed Crosby with it. It still surprises me how much and how quickly little children learn these days.

It was a nice warm day, so I moved two lawn chairs out in the yard. One toy that Erin had brought to our house for Emma Grace, our first little great-granddaughter, to play with is a doll house. Crosby likes to play with it, too. I carried the little doll house out for him. I teased him of being like a little girl. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Daisy came with the house. The furniture can be arranged, so C.J. likes to arrange things.

I set the doll house down and C.J. asked me to turn my chair halfway around. He said that he didn’t want me to watch him playing with the doll house. I did as he wanted me to. Once in a while, I took a quick look.

After he grew tired of playing with the doll house, I needed to get something else to do.

Rudene suggested we get an old croquet set and see if we could teach him to play. I set up one wire arch to see if he could knock the ball through it. I tried to teach him how to hold the mallet, but he just could not do it right. He kept trying to swing the mallet like a baseball bat. So, we gave up this idea.

We got out the bean bag throw set and he and I were still throwing bean bags when his ride home arrived. These little ones help Granny and me keep up our exercise. We LOVE to have these little ones come.
