CCCDC awards more than $118K to local organizations

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Community Development Commission (CCCDC) on Tuesday awarded nine grants, totaling approximately $118,000

The following grant requests were approved: 

  • Baileyton Volunteer Fire Department – AED devices $10,633.21
  • Berlin Volunteer Fire Department – thermal imaging camera $10,000
  • Cullman Area Literacy Council – community literacy projects $4,000
  • Liberty Learning – community education projects $12,000
  • Walter Volunteer Fire Department – personal protective equipment, radios, etc. $12,000
  • Cullman County Soil and Water Conservation District – educational supplies $12,000
  • Grace Place of Cullman – programs for dementia patients and caregivers $12,000
  • Gold Ridge Volunteer Fire Department – chest compression device $12,000
  • Valley Grove Community Center – facility/voting precinct upgrade $12,000
  • Hanceville Elementary School – electronic signage $10,000
  • Loretto Volunteer Fire Department – chest compression device $12,000

 

CCCDC members are:

  • Cherrie Haney – appointed by Sen. Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman
  • Joe Golden – appointed by Rep. Randall Shedd, R-Fairview
  • Bradley Williams – appointed by Rep. Corey Harbison, R- Good Hope
  • Josh Speakman – appointed by Rep. Scott Stadthagen, R-Hartselle
  • Champ Crocker, chairman – appointed by the legislative delegation

 

Funding for CCCDC grants comes from taxes- Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in lieu of taxes and beer taxes. Grants are capped at $12,000 and are not issued for more than that amount except under extraordinary circumstances, which must be approved by the legislators.

The CCCDC strives to maintain a $100,000 reserve fund, as advised by the legislators.
