It was great to be dismissed from the Hanceville Nursing Home Sunday morning. If I had been able, I would have jumped up and clicked my heels together, but alas, that was not possible. However, I was very glad to finish two weeks of exercise to get my strength back after having a hip replacement.

It has been two weeks and four days since I slid under the cover of my old familiar bed for a night of rest. Hospital beds and nursing home beds just don’t give you the same feeling. Tonight will be wonderful as Granny and I can snuggle together for a night of rest.

Our daughter, Robin, and one of our grandsons, Will, came over to help us get into our house. Rudene, Robin and Will put up our Christmas tree and other decorations for Christmas. I’m glad they were able to do that, for all I can do is hobble around the house at the present time.

Starting Monday morning I will have a nurse come once a week and another person come three days a week to give me exercise. It is sure good to be at home.

Since this a column about funny things, I need to get back to that.

I was in a semi-private room. It worked out well. My wife knew the man’s wife, and they renewed their friendship.

One day I needed some assistance with something and the man across from me also needed help. So two ladies came in to help us. One lady came beside the curtain and faced me. The other lady went beside the curtain and faced the man on the other side. So the ladies helping had their backs to each other.

As they were working, their behinds bumped together as they were still on separate sides of the curtain. The lady on my side reached out with her hand and squeezed the lady’s behind on the other side. This took the lady by surprise and she jumped and fell, missing the man’s wife, and flipping out across the foot of the man’s bed. No harm was done and the lady on my side and I burst out laughing. The lady on the other side of the curtain scolded us a little for laughing.

All the employees work very well together and there was actually no problem because we laughed.

I am very glad to be at home and in my own bed. I will always be grateful to the people at the Hanceville Nursing Home for the excellent care they gave to me.
