CULLMAN – A WIND CHILL ADVISORY remains in effect for the Cullman area from 9 p.m. tonight until noon Tuesday.

From the National Weather Service in Huntsville:

Bitterly cold arctic air and northerly winds will create dangerous wind chills across the Tennessee Valley tonight through Tuesday morning. The advisory is for the counties of Lauderdale-Colbert-Franklin AL-Lawrence-Limestone-Madison-Morgan- Marshall-Jackson-De Kalb-Cullman-Moore-Lincoln-Franklin TN- Including the cities of Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, Tuscumbia, Russellville, Red Bay, Moulton, Town Creek, Athens, Huntsville, Decatur, Albertville, Boaz, Guntersville, Arab, Scottsboro, Fort Payne, Rainsville, Cullman, Lynchburg, Fayetteville, Winchester, Sewanee, Decherd, Estill Springs and Cowan.

Very cold wind chills expected. Expect wind chills to range from zero to 10 below zero. Frostbite could develop in as little as 30 minutes for exposed skin. Wind chills this low also increase the potential for hypothermia. A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves.

Tonight: Temperatures will fall off quickly overnight in this arctic air mass, with low temperatures dropping into the single digits across the region. The combination of this arctic air and northerly winds will once again drop wind chill values between -10 and 0 degrees after 9 p.m. CST this evening.

Tuesday through Sunday: Bitterly cold air will persist over the area for much of the upcoming week. Low temperatures will remain below 15 degrees through the week.
