CULLMAN – The inaugural Shamrock Shuffle 5K and 1-mile color run, hosted by the East Elementary School (EES) Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), will kick off at 7 a.m. Saturday morning at the school. The course will navigate runners through the East Historic District, and will split based on the length of run the participant chooses. Cooling and water stations will be provided along the route.

The event will focus on fun, and inflatables will be available at the East Elementary playground. According to EES Principal David Wiggins, “One of our sponsors is giving items to a large number of runners as they cross the finish line.”

All proceeds from the run will go toward the purchase of new playground equipment for the school; the PTO hopes to raise the needed funds to install the equipment over the summer before the next school year begins.  The school hopes to make the Shamrock Shuffle an annual fundraising event for various items that the school may need, with the 5K more competitive in the future.

More than 100 runners have pre-registered, including Wiggins and several EES faculty and staff members. Wiggins says he will participate in the 1-mile color run to ensure that no child is left behind.

It’s not too late to sign up. On-site registration will take place from 7-7:45 a.m. The cost is $30 for the 5K, or $20 for the color run.

According to the PTO, “The Shamrock Shuffle Color Run is the perfect race for all age groups, casual runners, serious runners and walkers. Strollers are welcome. We want you to create a memory and not worry about your mile per minute.”

Participants will be showered in green throughout each course at color stations.
