HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Chasen Hampton broke his own Cullman Christian School boys’ 2-mile record and earned a top-10 finish Saturday, Sept. 26, leading the Lions at On Twilight at PR’ville at John Hunt Running Park.
Hampton finished 10th in the boys’ junior high/JV 2-mile race with a time of 11:56.50.
According to Cullman Christian Athletics, the performance lowered the school record he set at Fairview two weeks earlier by 2.27 seconds and improved on his previous week’s time of 12:22.54 by 26.04 seconds.
The school reported an eighth-place team finish for the boys and personal-best times for all nine of its 2-mile runners. Elisabeth DeCicco added a season-best performance in the girls’ open 5K.
Cutter Gibbs was the Lions’ second finisher in the boys’ 2-mile race, placing 43rd in 13:02.59. Gavin Stidham followed in 47th at 13:11.89, while Caleb Randolph finished 81st in 14:32.78 and Elijah Rutherford placed 87th in 14:51.89. Colton Olinger completed the course in 17:19.63 to finish 119th.
Olinger recorded the largest improvement among the CCS boys, cutting 3:09.62 from his previous week’s time, according to the school. Rutherford improved by 1:35.56, Stidham by 1:25.34, Gibbs by 1:21.13 and Randolph by 29.17 seconds.
Meribelle Brock led the Lady Lions in the girls’ junior high/JV 2-mile race, finishing 21st in 15:22.95. Arden Brock placed 41st in 16:37.60, and Aubrie Claire Rigsby finished 56th in 18:00.97.
Arden Brock cut 4:49.42 from her previous week’s time, the largest improvement among the school’s two-mile runners. Rigsby improved by 2:44.39, while Meribelle Brock lowered her time by 1:28.59, according to CCS.
DeCicco finished 49th in the girls’ open 5K with a time of 24:34.27. Her season-best effort was 2:22.84 faster than the 26:57.11 she recorded the previous week, according to the school.
