CULLMAN, Ala. – The Christina Chambers Twilight 5K will take place tomorrow night, Friday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m. at Cotton Creek in Cullman.
Chambers, a 2006 graduate of Cullman High School and former WBRC sports reporter, died in December 2025 in Hoover. She was 38.
Christina’s sister, Maria Chambers Clark, said they wanted to honor her by doing what she loved: running and enjoying an evening of music with family, friends and the community.
“It’s taken a strong team of people working selflessly and tackling obstacles as they arose to put on this event,” Clark said. “It’s a somewhat complex project to put on a race, but it’s a whole different ballgame when trying to properly honor someone as loved as Christina.”
Clark said they began the planning by speaking to the city and the police to figure out what all needed to be taken care of on the front end.
“After that, we worked with many selfless local businesses and vendors that wanted to help or be involved and see a memorable event to fruition,” Clark said. “We would like to thank all of our sponsors for making this event possible especially our title sponsor, Cullman Savings Bank. We are also starting a new chapter in everyone’s lives by raising awareness about domestic violence and the effects it has on families and communities.”
Part of the proceeds from the race will go to local nonprofit, The Willow Path.
“They help provide assistance to families by providing emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy and personalized support for survivors of domestic violence,” Clark said.
“The evening will be filled with family and friends sharing memories about Christina and how she was such a joy to be around. One of Christina’s favorite running quotes was: ‘To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift,’ spoken by Steven Prefontaine. She gave her best in everything she did from being the best mom to Constantine and putting her dedication and drive into her running and her work. She had a passion for life that was contagious and she inspired those of us around her. We look forward to people laying it all out there on the pavement just like she did. Give it your all.”
Pre-race festivities start at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
“We will have music at Cotton Creek, local vendors, food trucks, a kids’ area and more,” Clark said. “Get here early to make it a memorable event! The race will start promptly at 8 p.m.”
Race day packet pick-up
Even though festivities start at 5:30 p.m., packet pick-up will be available at Cotton Creek as early as 3 p.m. on Friday for anyone in the area.
Parking
Fourth Avenue Southwest and Fourth Street Southwest by Cotton Creek up to Hank’s/Jubilee/Seven Daughters Scoops will be shut down Friday afternoon. Parking available at:
- The city parking deck (behind the Chamber of Commerce)
- Desperation Church
- The city parking lot behind First Baptist
- The city parking lot south of Hank’s and Jubilee
- Cullman Savings Bank parking deck
Block party
There will be live music, food, drinks and other pre-race festivities outside of Jubilee and Seven Daughters Scoops courtesy of Cullman Savings Bank.
Warm-up and cool down
There will be a pre-race warm-up on the Cotton Creek green space at 7 p.m. courtesy of The Vault and Fit Society. Also, there will be a post-race cool down stretch inside The Venue at Cotton Creek courtesy of Elevate.
Post-race celebration
There will be live music by Fly By Radio on the green space at Cotton Creek. Awards will be held during their set break (around 9:45 p.m.).
