Blountsville police chief no longer employed by town

BLOUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Town of Blountsville announced Tuesday that Police Chief Joseph Ragan is no longer employed by the town.

The announcement was made in a joint statement from Blountsville Mayor Michael Glass and the Blountsville Town Council on behalf of the town.

“The Town takes all matters involving municipal operations, public trust, and accountability with the utmost seriousness,” Glass said. “While personnel matters are confidential and the Town will not provide additional details regarding this matter, this action was taken following careful consideration and in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.”

The town did not provide additional details about the decision and did not announce an interim or replacement chief in the statement.

The joint release said town officials recognize the importance of transparency and understand members of the community may have questions regarding the decision.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding demonstrated by the citizens of Blountsville as the Town diligently navigated the legal and administrative processes necessary to address this matter appropriately and responsibly,” Glass said.

According to the joint release, the town remains committed to professionalism, integrity, accountability and public service.

“Our foremost priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our residents, ensuring that all municipal departments operate efficiently, effectively, and in the best interests of the community,” Glass said.

The release also thanked residents for their continued trust and confidence.

“The Mayor and Town Council remain committed to serving our community with transparency, responsibility, and dedication as we work together to advance the future of our Town,” the statement said.
