CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman City Schools will welcome students Tuesday, Aug. 11, for the 2026-2027 school year.
Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff told The Tribune, “In all five of our schools, students and families can expect an environment where every child is both challenged and supported. Our teachers are dedicated to developing higher-order thinking skills through collaboration, problem-solving, critical thinking and real-world application. They invest countless hours preparing for each school year, and their commitment is reflected in the exceptional academic achievement of our students.”
He continued, “The 2026–2027 school year will be especially memorable for our school community. For the first time in many years, our sixth-grade students will return to Cullman Middle School, marking an exciting new chapter for those students and their families. It will also be the final school year for East Elementary School and West Elementary School before they come together in 2027–2028 to form Cullman Intermediate School. While we will celebrate the rich traditions and legacies of both schools throughout the year, we are equally excited about the opportunities this transition will create for future generations of Cullman City students.”

Cullman City Primary School advises that children should have a water bottle with them daily and that tennis shoes are required for physical education.
East and West Elementary Schools suggest parents log in to PowerSchool and ParentSquare on Aug. 6 to view their child’s homeroom teacher.
“Our teachers, administrators and support staff are eager to welcome students back into our classrooms. Families are also preparing to transition back into school routines, from earlier bedtimes to morning schedules. Together, let’s make the 2026-2027 school year our best yet,” Kallhoff recently wrote in a letter to the editor.
He also stressed that attendance is every student’s key to success.
“We encourage every student to arrive at school on time each day and set a goal of achieving perfect attendance. Every school day provides valuable learning opportunities that help students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.”

- Cullman City Primary School: 7:55 a.m.-2:45 p.m.
- East and West Elementary Schools: Morning drop-off begins at 7:30 a.m. Class begins at 7:55. Dismissal begins at 2:55 p.m. and concludes at 3:10
- Cullman Middle School: 7:45 a.m.-3 p.m.
- Cullman High School: 8 a.m.-3:05 p.m.
Tips for ensuring your child is prepared for the school year
- Have morning and bedtime routines in place to help them better adjust to waking up early again.
- Prep breakfast/lunches the night before.
- Keep all school forms in your child’s backpack.
- Keep car keys and backpacks in the same area every day so there isn’t a last-minute search party.
- Arrive early so your child isn’t feeling rushed and anxious at the start of the day.
