CULLMAN, Ala. – Some dogs don’t just walk into your life, they arrive with a rhythm all their own. Oliver, The Cullman Tribune Pet of the Week, is a Chihuahua and terrier mix estimated to be around 2 years old.

He’s the kind of companion who makes his presence known in the most endearing way. When it’s time to go outside, Oliver doesn’t just wait by the door. He tippy taps. A small, joyful dance with his front feet that feels less like routine and more like celebration. It’s a simple thing, but it says everything about who he is.

He’s attentive in a way that’s hard to teach. Oliver will walk up, look directly into your eyes and hold that gaze just long enough to remind you he knows exactly what he’s doing. It’s not demanding or anxious – just a quiet check-in from a dog who understands connection.

Physically, he carries a charm that is difficult to ignore. There’s something about his features that feels almost animated, like a cartoon character brought to life.

All of it comes together to make him an ideal candidate for a companion or therapy dog, the kind that doesn’t just exist in your home but actively improves the way it feels.

Oliver’s adoption fee is $130, which covers neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, rabies vaccination, microchipping and basic veterinary care.

Visit the Cullman County Animal Shelter at 935 Convent Road NE. It’s open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Contact the shelter at 256-734-5448 or cullmananimalshelter@co.cullman.al.us.

If Oliver finds his home before you meet him, know that there are many more dogs just like him, each with its own personality, waiting for someone to notice them.
