BREMEN, Ala. – The Cold Springs Eagles collected a road win over Lynn last week and they returned home for a region matchup against West End Friday night. Cold Springs led 12-0 at halftime and the Eagles held firm on the defensive side of the ball in the second half to shut out the Patriots 28-0.

Cold Springs took a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter on a rushing touchdown by Cooper Johnson. Eli Voce intercepted a Patriots pass just before the end of the first quarter to set up the Eagle offense and Tycen Kilgo ran one into the end zone later in the second quarter to make it a 12-0 game. Cold Springs’ defense forced a turnover on downs just before halftime to preserve a 12-0 advantage at the break.

Neither offense was able to get much going in the third quarter, but the Eagles finished the third with a big play on defense when Ayden Black picked off another West End pass. Cold Springs took advantage of the scoring opportunity when Johnson punched in a touchdown and a two-point conversion midway through the fourth quarter, stretching the Eagles’ lead to 20-0.

Cold Springs continued to shine on the defensive side of the ball as Cason Alexander intercepted a third Patriots pass on the ensuing possession. A touchdown pass from Black to Tidus Light added to the Eagles’ lead and Johnson ran in the two-point conversion to wrap up a 28-0 region win for Cold Springs.

Cold Springs (6-1) will remain at home for another region showdown against Coosa Christian next week.
