HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Shirley Burden Public Library in Hanceville has had a full schedule throughout July, featuring fun activities for young readers, hosting special guests and preparing for upcoming programs.
The Cullman County Public Library System (CCPLS) Bookmobile paid a visit to the Shirley Burden Library this month. CCPLS Director Amber Thornton and Bookmobile Manager Willette Harbison brought along a wide variety of books and games, giving children the opportunity to check out the new mobile library selection.
Storytime also continued at the library, with Cathi Bradford, president of the Hanceville Library Board, leading a recent reading session for local children. Each week, the library offers small crafts, snacks and interactive storytelling to encourage creativity and early literacy.
The library plans to host a Minecraft Club Open House on Tuesday, Aug. 6, starting at 10 a.m., aiming to introduce children to creative, engineering-inspired thinking through the video game. Monthly art and book clubs are scheduled throughout the school year, with updates available on the library’s Facebook page (Facebook/Hanceville Public Library).
The Shirley Burden Public Library continues to fund its children’s programs through proceeds from its pre-owned book store, which relies on community donations. Recently, the library received a generous donation of books detailing the various wars and mysteries.
The Shirley Burden Public Library is open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. It is located at 201 Commercial St. in Hanceville.
