PREP FOOTBALL: Good Hope defeats Sardis 47-6, improves to 5-1

GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Raiders started hot and never looked back against Sardis, earning a 47-6 victory Friday, Oct. 2, to improve to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in Class 4A, Region 8.

Good Hope opened the game with a kick return by junior Ryker Hancock that gave the Raiders excellent field position. Four plays later, Hancock scored on a short run, helping Good Hope take a 7-0 lead.

Sardis’ initial drive ended with a fumble, giving the Raiders possession.

Good Hope made the most of its next drive as senior Karson Hollis found a hole in the Sardis defense and scored a touchdown, helping extend the lead to 14-0.

Sardis ended the first quarter with a turnover on downs, giving the Raiders the ball to start the second quarter.

On Good Hope’s first possession of the second quarter, Hancock found the end zone again, helping push the lead to 21-0 with seven minutes remaining before halftime.

Sardis continued to struggle on offense as its next drive stalled, giving the ball back to the Raiders.

On its next possession, Good Hope marched down the field, and Hancock found the end zone for the third time as the Raiders extended their lead to 28-0.

Sardis again gave the ball back to Good Hope, and the Raiders scored once more before halftime. The extra point attempt missed, leaving Good Hope ahead 34-0 at the break.

Sardis opened the third quarter with a drive that ended without points. Good Hope followed with another touchdown, helping extend its lead to 41-0.

The Lions answered with a touchdown late in the third quarter, but their extra point attempt missed, making the score 41-6.

Good Hope scored its final touchdown early in the fourth quarter to stretch the lead to 47-6.

Sardis’ next possession ended with an interception, and the Raiders ran out the clock to secure the victory.

Good Hope will host Fairview on Friday, Oct. 9.
