HOOVER, Ala. – Former WBRC Sports Reporter and 2006 Cullman High School graduate Christina Chambers was tragically found dead in her home in Hoover Tuesday morning, Dec. 16.

WBRC in Birmingham reported, “Hoover Police found Christina and her husband with gunshot wounds, and when medics arrived to the home, they pronounced both of them dead.” The news station called it “an apparent murder-suicide.”

A 3-year-old child was also in the home, but was unharmed, the station said. Hoover Police were called to the home after Chambers and her husband were found unresponsive by a family member around 9 a.m.

“Christina joined WBRC in 2015 and quickly became a key part of WBRC’s sports coverage. She appeared on Sideline every Friday night and frequently stepped in to help anchor coverage of the Mercedes Marathon, even while running the race herself. After leaving her full-time role in July 2021, she continued to freelance for WBRC’s Sideline during the 2025 football season,” WBRC reported. “Christina was a beloved coworker and mom to a 3-year-old son who she adored. She known for her quick wit, smile, warmth, care, and love for her UAB Blazers and high school sports.”

“She was one of the sweetest, most loving people that I know. She was relentless with running, loving her son, and loving life. I am glad I got a chance to hug and tell her I love her a week ago at the Super 7. I am so sorry for her family, the Chambers and Thompson Families, and her WBRC Family,” said Jeh Jeh Pruitt, WBRC 6 News anchor.

“Prior to joining the WBRC 6 News sports team, Christina served as a sports reporter/anchor at WAKA in Montgomery, Alabama. She began her broadcast career as a sports and news reporter at WLTZ NBC38 in Columbus, Georgia, before joining the regional sports network Comcast Sports Southeast in Atlanta. At CSS, she served as the Auburn University beat reporter and sideline reporter for Friday night high school football games. In 2014, Christina also did freelance work as a sideline reporter and halftime host for Raycom Media and the AHSAA during broadcasts of the Super 7 high school football playoffs, and high school basketball finals,” reported WBRC. “Christina most recently worked in the Corporate Communications department at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.”

Reaction was swift and heartfelt online:

“We are just numbingly shocked and enormously saddened by the horrific loss of our former WBRC colleague Christina Chambers.  She was such a light in this world, who loved running and doting on her 3-year-old son.  Her young life was taken in her home in Hoover (sic). Right now, we ask for prayers for her surviving son, her family and our WBRC family as we grieve this heartbreaking tragedy,” said WBRC’s Mike Dubberly.

Former colleague Rick Karle posted, in part:

I’m sitting alone trying to come to grips with the loss.

It’s not only my loss, but your loss, too.

Because my friend who loved to love died this morning.

And she made the world a better place.

She joined the WBRC Channel 6 (Birmingham) sports team in 2015.

From the moment she joined us, she had a great motor to go with her kind soul.

She never griped, only loved.

Whatever task I put before her, she tackled it with glee.

She was so driven, yet so kind.

She loved the warmth of a hug and a breeze through her hair.

She was a world class runner.

Running brought her joy and energy.

As if she needed more energy.

She had a deep relationship with Jesus.

She never missed church and never missed living in her faith.

Her love for her family- including her 3-year-old son- ran deep.

She loved the feeling loving others brought her.

She loved her friends from UAB.

She loved her co-horts at Fox6.

She loved her running partners.

She loved her students at Thompson High School.

She loved her co-workers at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.

Chambers’ family owns Chambers Farm and Garden Supply in southwest Cullman.
