WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Warriors returned home to take on the East Limestone Friday night in a region matchup. It was scoreless through the first three quarters, but West Point scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth to pull ahead late and ended up defeating East Limestone 14-6.

West Point got a first down on its opening possession on an eight-yard pass from Max Patterson to Cooper Howard, but their offense stalled after that, and they were forced to punt, which turned into a trend for both squads in the opening quarter. A Titan Thornton sack on third down forced East Limestone to punt. Another Patterson connection to Howard gave the Warriors another first down, and a 40-yard touchdown pass from Patterson to Howard got called back because of a penalty. West Point punted to start the second quarter, and a 41-yard pass on the first play put East Limestone at midfield. They quickly moved the ball to the 25, and after a penalty, they got a first down. They quickly went backwards after that, and they missed their field goal attempt, keeping the game scoreless.

A pair of passes from Patterson to Howard put the Warriors at the 41, then Patterson found Bryant Moon for 14 more and a first down. After the play, an East Limestone penalty moved the ball up to the 30. A sack on second down, though, brought their drive to a screeching halt, and they were forced to turn the ball over on downs. The score would remain scoreless going into the break.

East Limestone got a first down to start out the second half, but two plays later, West Point recovered an Indian fumble. Howell ran for 20 yards and a first down, then two plays later, his 10-yard scamper put the ball at the one. Two plays later, though, the Warriors coughed up the ball, and East Limestone recovered the ball. A punt gave the ball back to West Point, and back-to-back passes from Patterson to Howard quickly put the ball at the 27. Two plays later, a 12-yard pass on fourth down kept their drive alive. A big penalty on East Limestone on fourth down kept their drive alive once again, and on the next play, Howell found a big hole up the middle and scored from eight yards out to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead early in the fourth quarter.

West Point forced another Indian punt, and a bad punt put the Warriors in excellent field position at the 20. A penalty backed them up to the 25, and on third down, a 21-yard touchdown pass by Patterson gave them a 14-0 lead almost midway through the final quarter. A huge 44-yard pass on second down quickly had East Limestone in business at the 24, and they ended up finding the end zone on a three-yard run to cut it to 14-6 with less than four minutes to go in the contest.

West Point looked to burn some time off of the clock, and a huge 18-yard completion from Patterson to Howard gave them a first down at the 27. Their offense stalled, and their field goal attempt got blocked, giving the Indians the ball with less than a minute to go in the game. They got a first down on an 11-yard pass on third down, but three plays later, the Warriors picked off a pass to help seal the 14-6 region win over East Limestone.

Patterson finished 11/19 for 105 yards and a touchdown for West Point (4-3, 2-2), and Howell carried the ball 19 times for 84 yards and a score.

The Warriors will travel to take on Russellville next Friday night in another huge region matchup.
