BREMEN, Ala. — Cold Springs’ Cason Alexander will start his junior year of high school in August, and in this interview, he talked about how much of a role God has played in his life, starting with his favorite Bible verse.
“God means everything to me. Every choice I have made and continue to make in life always makes me question: ‘Is this what God would want, and how can this help me grow in my relationship with Him”? I work and fail every day trying to be as perfect as Him, but I know that through His amazing grace and love, I am eternally saved. God has changed my life in ways that I can’t even describe. He has given me so many blessings: a roof over my head, food, water, a family, friends, the ability to play sports for Him and so much more that I’m so grateful for. He, without a doubt, continues to bless me and change me for the better every day, and I can’t wait to see the plans He has in store for me,” Cason said. “My favorite Bible verse of all time is Romans 8:11, which states: ‘The spirit of the One who raised Jesus from the dead dwells within you’. This bible verse, to me, can mean many different things, but it really motivates me to think that the same power that rose Jesus from the dead is living inside me, and that by itself gives me the motivation I need to play to the best of my abilities in sports, and work as hard as I can in general.”
Cason wants to help people of all ages find God, and being a role model is very important to him.
“I personally believe that it is my soul mission, as a follower of Jesus, to help anybody and everybody find Him. I believe Jesus has a higher calling for me: to help people surrender to Him and give Him their everything,” Alexander said. “I only hope to be half the man that Jesus was in His life, and I believe to be anything like Him. Being a role model for those who look up to me comes first. Whether it’s kids, adults, seniors, however old they are, I would love to be a role model for many to look up to.”
Alexander talked about a couple of Godly role models in his life that he looks up to. He gave some advice to anyone who might be wanting to have a relationship with God.
“In sports, my Godly role model is Tua Tagovailoa. He wears cross eye paint on his face and sometimes wears Bible verses before games. I do the same with my Bible verses before games on my wrist tape. For school, my Godly role model is coach Voce. No matter what happens in games or at school, He always lets us know he loves us, and I strive to, someday, be able to coach and aspire to be like him,” he said. “Open your Bible, watch movies about Jesus, quit listening to bad music, and overall, just surrender, pick up your cross, and start walking with Jesus today. You are forgiven and loved and always remember that Jesus is the only person you will ever need in your life.”
Cason has a special tradition he does before every football game, and he shared some of what he has learned during his journey so far.
“Before every football game, I hug every one of my teammates and tell them I love them. It isn’t exactly a Godly ritual, but I feel that God is telling me deep down that it’s something they like to hear, and it makes them feel loved, so I enjoy doing it,” he said. “I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned during my journey is how to really cope with loss. When my grandmother passed away, the only emotions I felt were anger and confusion, because she was the last person in the world to deserve it, but I also thought to myself that she was also the most deserving of returning to heaven. I can live with myself knowing she’s in such a better place, and with that, I learned to always stay true to God and to never turn your back on Him when you fall. There’s only good things coming ahead.”
