CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Monday, May 12, approved the next step in a major overhaul of Cullman Regional Airport, voting to award the bid for an airport hangar to Newell, Park & Eleazer Construction, LLC in the amount of $2,734,670.

Airport Director Ben Harrison told the council that the north apron (aircraft parking area) will be rebuilt this year, along with the addition of a new taxiway and the approved hangar.

“It will be a good year,” said Harrison. “Will be a lot of construction this year. So we’re looking forward to moving forward and, once the apron is done, all of our major pavement will have been completely rebuilt since 2016. So the airport’s in a lot different shape than it was 10 years ago.”

Additionally, the council approved a resolution to apply for a fiscal year 2026 TAP grant for handicapped accessible sidewalks beginning at the intersection of Fourth Street Southwest and Third Avenue Southwest and extending south along Third Avenue Southwest to Fifth Street Southwest and then west along Fifth Street Southwest to the intersection of Fourth Avenue Southwest

The council also approved special event requests:

  • From Helen Allen of the American Cancer Society to hold the annual Cullman County Relay For Life on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Depot Park
  • From Christy Turner of Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism to hold a “Roll Cullman” community roller skating event on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Depot Park

The Cullman City Council meets next on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the city hall auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
