ADDISON, Ala. – The Addison Bulldogs (27-9) took care of business last week, sweeping Lynn (12-1, 11-6) to advance to the state semifinals for the first time in 30 years. Now, they’ll travel to Hackleburg to play the Panthers (29-7) Thursday with a trip to the state championship game on the line. The Bulldogs have played Hackleburg twice this season, dropping their first matchup in February 4-1 and defeating the Panthers in their second meeting in April 6-5.

No. 3 Addison at No. 2 Hackleburg (Class 1A Semifinals)

Game One: Thursday at 5 p.m.

Game Two: Thursday at 7 p.m.

Game Three: Friday at 5 p.m. (if necessary)

Addison Head Coach Lee Williams

On the challenges of facing Hackleburg again,

“They are well coached. They have several good pitchers that will challenge us to be solid at the plate and make us have to put the ball in play,” Williams said. “We will have to play well defensively, and our pitchers must keep from walking guys. They seem to be hitting the ball well so all those aspects must be solidified for us to have a chance to win this series.”

On where his team is playing well and how he wants them to approach this series,

“Our team has hit the ball well over the first three rounds. These players have played loose and are having fun. I want them to continue that into this series and enjoy the game,” Williams said. “We must continue to put runs on the board to help our pitchers. We need to make sure we continue to keep errors and walks from beating us. We do those things as it gives us every opportunity to win this series.”

On building on the success of last season and putting together a deep playoff run,

“Proud is an understatement. I couldn’t be prouder of a group of guys that have bonded, stayed close and reached the goals that they wanted when the season began,” Williams said. “This team was disappointed on how last season ended and they have showed that by the work they have put in to be where they are right now. As a coach you always want to see your players succeed and I’m enjoying watching the success of not only these seniors but this team as whole. They are some of the most amazing young men that love each other and play every game for each other.”
