BAILEYTON, Ala. – After Mayor Windell Calloway called the monthly Baileyton Town Council meeting to order on Monday, Donna Kent, president of the Baileyton Senior Center, was the first speaker of the night.

Kent expressed her appreciation for the council and its assistance in funding various needs at the center. She brought forth a proposal for the council to consider assisting with hiring help to clean the center once a month.

Kent stated, “My goal is to keep that center clean enough that if you called to rent the center…it would be ready to go the next day. It’s not that the seniors won’t help me, it’s that they can’t help me.”

The council agreed to consider the proposal and announce a decision at a later time.

The main topic of discussion at the meeting was the fourth annual Family Fun Day in the Park on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. near the Baileyton Volunteer Fire Department. Admission to the event is free, and vendor spots can be reserved up until the morning of the event. Town leaders said to expect a fun-filled day full of crafts, food, music, bounce houses and more. For vendor information, contact Baileyton Town Hall at 256-796-6447.

The council also announced that the Latham Horse Show, originally scheduled for Sept.13-14, was canceled in anticipation of inclement weather. The council said to expect another horse show scheduled in the near future for those looking forward to the event.

The next town council meeting is Monday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. at Baileyton Town Hall, located at 95 Fire Station Road.
