VINEMONT, Ala. – Councilmembers and staff of the Town of South Vinemont are spending this week preparing and tying up loose ends for their second annual Christmas in the Park. Held in the newly renovated Vinemont Community Park, dubbed the Art Park, Christmas in the Park is set to be a wholesome, fun-filled family event, displaying the town’s hospitality and love of its residents and community with an outpouring of holiday spirit.
Last year’s Christmas in the Park was host to a Toys For Tots tournament, bringing in hundreds of donations for local children and struggling caregivers in need of gifts or assistance at Christmastime. In lieu of that Toys for Tots toy drive and tournament, the Town has instead opted to install a mailbox at Vinemont Town Hall that sends the letters of anxious children directly to the North Pole.
Vinemont Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser spoke animatedly, “We are so excited about our mailbox this year. We will have envelopes and stationery out there. They will get to fill it out, and ‘Santa’ will mail them something back! It will keep the magic of the season alive.” This year will also see the Town’s inaugural Tinsel Trail, which will frame the edges of the newly redone walking trail and memorial benches, adding beauty and cheer to a somber area of remembrance. The Tinsel Trail will light up shortly before the Christmas in the Park event, starting the evening off with a spectacular show. Decorations will adorn the park in every imaginable way, from string lights hung throughout tree branches, to dancing elves and Santa’s sleigh in the green space.
“We will have cookies and hot chocolate, parents can bring their children to have their picture taken with Santa; all this is free for the community,” Sasser explained. “We will have ornaments for the kids to make and we will have a snow machine; the kids really loved that last year!”
Christmas in the Park will take place Saturday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m. at Vinemont’s Community Park, located at 88 Ridgeway Street. This event is free and will culminate in the lighting of the Town of South Vinemont’s Christmas tree. Please note: there will be no professional photographer; parents and caregivers are responsible for taking their photos with Santa.
