CULLMAN, Ala. – Hundreds walked through the doorways of Northbrook Baptist Church on Tuesday evening, Oct. 24, for Good Samaritan Health Clinic’s (GSHC’s) signature fundraiser, the Caring for Cullman Concert. Attendees were greeted by volunteers from both the church and Good Samaritan as they showed tickets, presented love offerings and settled into sanctuary seats for a night of praise and worship for a good cause.

Local favorite Daystar Church’s worship team opened the evening while award-winning American Southern gospel group Triumphant Quartet took the stage to close the show.

GSHC board member Zach Lee shared that while the evening is typically a fun, faith-based concert to many, it is so much more to GSCH, with ticket sales and love offerings helping to pad the budget to continue caring for the uninsured residents of the community.

“The concert helps us provide services all throughout the year, so this is a huge event for us,” he said, gesturing to the large crowd who had yet to find a seat. “Every year, (GSHC Executive Director) Jolanda (Hutson) does an amazing job putting this together. We’re so proud the community supports us and that everyone feels welcome to join us.”

The services Lee mentioned include primary health and wellness care to uninsured adults in Cullman County, at no cost to the patient. Once patients qualify, they have access to all the clinic’s services including medications, referrals, dental extractions, hearing evaluations, mental health counseling and social services.

Eric Bennett, bass vocalist of Triumphant Quartet and Cullman native, shared his thoughts on returning year after year to support GSHC and its mission of caring for those who are uninsured.

“I love coming here to my hometown,” he said. “I love lots and lots of friends and family here, and it’s always good to see the home team!”

Hutson said the event was “a huge success,” noting that the community built around this concert is one of a kind.

“We are incredibly thankful to all who so faithfully support Good Samaritan Clinic through our signature event. From our generous sponsors to the churches, organizations and media who assist us in promoting our event, we could not be more grateful. It’s always such an enjoyable evening seeing familiar faces and catching up with friends!” she smiled.

Last year, Caring for Cullman raised over $11,000, or about 12% of the clinic’s annual budget. A final total raised for this year’s concert was not available at press time.
