HOLLY POND, Ala. — Last season was a very special one for the Holly Pond Lady Broncos as they took home the area championship in volleyball and made it to Regionals in Huntsville. Upcoming senior Kaylee Rohrscheib talked about that incredible season and what all she learned.

“Last volleyball season went really good in my opinion and the bonds we made as a whole team definitely helped us with how successful we were. We may not have made it to state that year, but we definitely were able to see the growth in each other and things we needed to work on. Coach Adrien Adams was a big part in how successful we were that season, and we can’t thank her enough of how much she supported us on and off the court,” Rohrscheib said. “I have learned to always keep my head up, stay positive, and have faith, even through the good and bad times. If you want to make it to state, you have to make sure you show up ready to work, even if you are not feeling it that day. I learned to have more confidence in myself, don’t get down, especially after one point, because it’s hard to get back up, and keep focused on not just yourself and your mistakes, but the team and the game itself. Coach Adams helped me learn more about Christ and how volleyball isn’t your whole world. It only lasts a few years, but Christ lasts for eternity in your life. She has made a big impact on my life and will forever cherish that.”

Kaylee has had a blast playing for coach Adams and she has learned so many more things from her so far.

“Playing with her these past two years has honestly been a blessing. She is such an amazing coach with how much knowledge she has about the sport and how supportive she is to all her athletes she coaches. I have enjoyed how far she has gotten me from when I first started playing for her. She has really helped me boost my confidence and know that I am loved. Playing for her is so much fun, because she always knows how to make practices and working out so much better, while we are getting better at the same time. I have learned to be a stronger passer with the many tips she has given me. I have also learned to always keep my head up and keep my faith strong in the not-so-good times. Life is too short, so enjoy and soak in every moment you have. I truly love and respect her as my coach and all the players I have and still do play with. They are my family and without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Kaylee got to play alongside senior Aliyah Ryan last season and learned so much from her. During her time on varsity so far, Kaylee has seen her game improve so much over the past couple of seasons.

“She worked hard at her position and was always so happy and encouraging. She definitely had an impact on the team. She was a great teammate with how positive she was. She taught me how to be a better passer and a team player; she also taught me to stay strong through pressure,” she said. “It has definitely grown a good bit. When I first started playing with the varsity team, I was just pulled up, playing right side defense for our setter when JV didn’t have games and the season was over. Now, I am on my second year of playing as the libero. I have definitely been working hard to get my passing better and better each day.”

Kaylee will continue to work on her game in the offseason as she will get prepared for next season. She has set some goals for this upcoming season.

“I plan to work a lot on serve-receive and moving my feet better to make sure my body and platform are in the center to make sure I always get a good pass. I plan on building my leg strength up also. Another thing I plan on doing is making sure I always stay active on off days to make sure to not lose any progress made,” she said. “My individual goals are to get stronger during the offseason, work on individual skills that will help me better my passing, make sure that my academics are at high standards to be able to focus better towards the team, and study and listen to God’s words to help guide me in my day-to-day life. My team goals are to win all the area games and make it to state.”

Kaylee thinks this will be another special season for the Lady Broncos. She looked up to a couple of teammates growing up and she shared some of the best advice she was ever given.

“I think what will make this team so special to watch is how close we all are to each other. We are always lifting each other up when one is down. We work great together, and we have been playing together since the second grade, starting with basketball, so we all have a close bond. This is our last season to all play with each other, so it will be a great last season, which makes it so special, because we want nothing but the best for the last go-around,” she said. “When I was younger and just starting volleyball, I looked up to Kyndell Hays and Kennedy Twilley. They were both Liberos and they were always so encouraging. I loved to watch them play. The best advice I have been given is that you need to keep your faith strong, no matter what.”
