Cullman council gives updates on roads, new hotel

CULLMAN, Ala. – At Monday’s meeting of the Cullman City Council, Mayor Woody Jacobs gave an update on road construction around city hall and the Cullman County Public Library, saying, “We have Clark Street open to foot traffic.”  

He said that while the project is not yet 100% complete, the City is excited with the progress.  

The council reported the new Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel on Alabama Highway 157 near Interstate 65 will be completed before Rock the South in July. A statement on the hotel’s website says, “We’re accepting reservations for July 23, 2023 and beyond.” 

The council approved the following agenda items: 

  1. A request from Mansa Hospitality, dba Home2 Suites Cullman, of 5720 Alabama Highway 157, for a beer and wine on premises alcohol license, which received a favorable recommendation from the Alcohol Review Committee 
  1. A request from Opportunity Cullman, LLC, dba Cobblestone Hotel & Suites and Wissota Chophouse, of 1835 Main Ave. SW for a restaurant alcohol license, which received a favorable recommendation from the Alcohol Review Committee 
  1. Resolution No. 2023-49 to award bid for water materials to the lowest responsible bidder, Consolidated Pipe & Supply Co., Inc. 
  1. Resolution No. 2023-50 to enter into a professional services agreement with Chapman Technical Services to perform ADEM-compliant annual water tank inspections and periodic maintenance 
  1. Resolution No. 2023-51 to apply for an Appalachian Regional Commission grant to construct improvements to Depot Park
