CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame (CVHOF), a mission spearheaded by Fairview native Col. Donald Fallin, aims to recognize and pay tribute to our community’s veterans who honorably served our country, displayed great character and continued a lifetime of service to our country, state and community.

Fallin said the inspiration for CVHOF hit him while he was visiting the Cullman County Sports Hall of Fame.

The mission’s tangible and permanent goal is to display within Cullman County Courthouse halls the stories of an exemplary few – those who represent the goals, passion, stories and memories of our military and its brave service members.

Nominations are currently open for the 2023 class, which will be comprised of five veterans selected for their honorable service and impact on the community. Nominees must have been born, raised in or a resident of Cullman County for at least 10 years. Other considerations include receipt of awards and commendations, successive tours of duty, membership or leadership in veterans organizations, as well as community service endeavors.

Fallin said the judging committee is made of representatives from many veteran-focused groups, including disabled and combat veterans, which will hopefully lead to selections of

well-rounded nominees who are judged from all facets.

“A key point is that this committee is represented by the VFW, American Legion and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). So it’s pretty stacked,” he mentioned.

Know a veteran you believe should be recognized? Stop by Cullman VFW Post 2214 to pick up a paper copy of the application. The deadline to receive nominations is Friday, Aug. 25, 2023. The induction ceremony dinner for the 2023 class will be on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023.
