FAIRVIEW, Ala. — In this interview, I talked to Fairview basketball player Morgan Lindsay. There was one very special basketball memory that Morgan will always remember during her time at Fairview, and she had some great high school memories as well.

“My favorite basketball memory was our game against Guntersville at home. We were down with one second on the clock and I ended up winning the game with a pair of free throws. The crowd was wild and that night and that’s definitely a game I won’t forget. My favorite high school memories were prom night and homecoming week.”

Morgan played for coach Justin Billings for her whole high school basketball career and soaked up so much from him.

“Coach Billings is a man I could go on about. Not only did he care about us on the court, he was a great person off the court as well. He always pushed me to my limits and always pushed me to better myself,” Lindsay said. “What I learned from him was that you have to take every single moment in like it’s your last. Last year’s season flew by, but I always know that if one of us girls needed him, he’d be there to help us.”

Morgan learned so much during her time at Fairview and was very blessed to be an Aggie. She’ll miss being at Fairview this year.

“The most important thing I learned was to reach out and talk to everybody, even if they aren’t in your friend group. You never know what people are going through and sometimes a simple smile or a hello will make somebody’s whole day. Everybody is family at Fairview,” she said. “I’ll miss seeing all of the people that I grew up with every day and all of the school events.”

Morgan took away so much from the upperclassmen before her and that helped her become one of the leaders to the younger players.

“My first year playing basketball, I really looked up to Taylor Yeager and Abby Smith. They taught me that hard work definitely pays off. With enough dedication, you can do anything you set your mind to. What I taught the younger players was that basketball doesn’t have to be a chore. You should play the game, but still have fun while doing it. There are times that you have to be serious, but at times, it’s okay to make jokes and mess around with one another. We had a lot of great chemistry on and off the court and we are and still are great friends.”

Morgan gave some advice to the students that just started high school about a month ago.

“I would tell them to try new things, join clubs, and be active in school. Never be scared of trying out new sports because in the end, you will regret it if you don’t give it a shot.”
