CULLMAN, Ala. –  The Cullman City Council this month signed its annual Transportation Plan, laying out which roads will be repaved with funds from the Rebuild Alabama Act.

The act, commonly referred to as the “gas tax,” requires that each municipality adopt an annual transportation plan no later than Aug. 31 and provide a detailed list of projects for which expenditures are intended to be made in the next fiscal year, based on an estimate of the revenues anticipated from the fund. The funds can only be used for the maintenance, improvement, replacement and construction of roads and bridges maintained by the municipality.

Last year’s plan saw the resurfacing of many streets in the city, including areas of Main Avenue, Graham Street Southwest, Logan Street Southwest and several roads in Terri Pines.

This year’s list will include the resurfacing of most roads in the Northwood subdivision, located just northwest of the Alabama Highway 157 and U.S. Highway 31 intersection. One additional road in Terri Pines will be resurfaced as well. Roads on the resurfacing list include:

  • Ashwood Lane Northwest
  • Acorn Avenue Northwest
  • Pinewood Drive Northwest
  • Dodson Drive Northwest
  • Woodvale Drive Northwest
  • Madison Drive Northwest
  • Fantasia Drive Northwest
  • Fern Street Northwest
  • Quail Run Northwest

Another upcoming road project, funded by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), is Warnke Road Northwest, located in the Nesmith Park neighborhood near West Elementary School. The grant program, administered by the State of Alabama since 1982, is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. A recent CDBG project in Cullman is Brunner Street Northwest.
