  • Slicing- bring one of each variety
  • Youth grown- cherry and/or slicing – follow above guidelines
  • Heaviest- bring one slicing tomato

You may enter more than one tomato variety in each contest, and no advance registration required. There will be prizes for the first-place winner of each category, provided by Chambers Farm and Garden Supply.

The Cullman County Extension office has seen the active reception to surrounding counties Tomato Taste-off events. Etowah County has recently hosted a Tomato Taste-off, which is where Extension Coordination Kira Sims says they gleaned the idea.

Sims invited any local tomato growers, “We’d love to have anyone that has homegrown tomatoes participate in the Tomato Taste-off Saturday, June 25 at Festhalle Farmers Market. We’re looking for great tasting cherry and slicing tomatoes, delicious tomatoes grown by youth and the heaviest tomato in Cullman County!”

Judges will include local chefs, tomato experts and tomato-lovers. For more information, call the Cullman County Extension office or check out the Facebook event page – Cullman County Tomato Taste-off.
