CULLMAN, Ala. – Brett Patterson was recently sworn in and will leave for Marine boot camp on Aug. 9. Patterson is a 2020 graduate of Cullman High School. He is the son of Rick Patterson and Christy Perry and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Perry of Athens, Connie Cochran of Cullman and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Patterson of Hermiston, Oregon.

Patterson said of his decision to join the military, “Part of me has wanted to join the military since I was a little kid. As I got older, I noticed those I knew who joined the military seemed to have better direction in life and I believe this is the best way to mature and grow as a person.”

He added, “The Marines have the least amount of people, and a lot of people shy away from it because of what you have to deal with and go through. There is a lot of pride in the Marines, and they enable me to live life the way I want to.” Patterson will be entering with the Infantry Leadership option, a six-year commitment.
