CULLMAN, Ala. – Gwen Parker on Thursday announced her candidacy for Cullman City Council, place 3. Parker will face incumbent Johnny Cook in the Aug. 25, 2020 Municipal Election.

Below is Parker’s announcement:

Gwen Parker, the senior vice president at People’s Bank of Alabama, has announced her candidacy for Cullman City Council Place 3.

Currently, Gwen oversees operations at 27 branches and is over Branch Administration as well as Bank Security & Facilities Management. She has been involved in several remodels and building projects in her time at Peoples Bank of Alabama.

Gwen is a graduate of Alabama Banking School and attended the School of Marketing at LSU. Her pride and joy is her involvement and development of her family—both her immediate and banking family. She considers those she works with to be family and is invested in their growth and success.

Parker was the first female state president of the Alabama Elks Association as well as the first female state president in the United States. One of her achievements includes the 2009 honor by President George W. Bush for the President’s Call to Service Award for Service and Civic Participation.

Big challenges (lie) ahead when it comes to promoting honesty and integrity within our city government and Gwen Parker has the experience, strength, and energy to keep her commitment to honesty and integrity while serving Cullman. She would like to see changes to city hiring practices as well as board transparency.

Other issues she would like to be involved in include improvements in infrastructure including schools, roads, utilities ((e.g.) Duck River Project) as well as the support of our small businesses.

Her deep concern for her community has won her a long list of civic engagements, and her knack for developing strong professional and civic relationships cannot be overlooked. Gwen knows that fundamental organizational change is a team effort. Gwen can clearly communicate with a team who wants changes in our local government and work in a group as a leader to form lasting relationships. She is proud to bring her many decades of experience and concern for her community to the Cullman City Council.
